Hiking Itineraries

India Venster Trail (±3.5 hours)

A more adventurous route along the slopes of Table Mountain, offering dramatic views over the city and ocean. Expect short scrambles, rocky sections, and stunning lookout points. Wildlife sightings may include sunbirds, starlings, and dassies.

Suitable for active hikers and older children with supervision.

Kasteelspoort Trail (±5 hours)

This scenic route on the Twelve Apostles side of Table Mountain rewards hikers with sweeping ocean views and iconic photo stops such as the famous “Surfboard” viewpoint. The trail passes rich fynbos vegetation and offers chances to spot small wildlife such as dassies and birds.

A great option for fit families and adventure lovers.

Lion’s Head Hike (±3.5 hours)

One of Cape Town’s most iconic hikes on Lion's Head, offering 360° views of Table Mountain, the Atlantic coastline, and surrounding landmarks.

Choose between a more adventurous route with chains or a longer, easier path. This hike is especially popular for sunrise and sunset experiences.

Platteklip Gorge (±3 hours)

After your descent from Table Mountain, you’ll be dropped off at the V&A Waterfront or your accommodation around 15:00.

Skeleton Gorge (±6 hours)

Starting in the lush Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, this trail climbs through shaded forest paths and rocky terrain. It is one of the most scenic and diverse hikes on Table Mountain.

The route ends near the summit and may include a cable car descent depending on weather conditions.

Minimum Age:

8 years (must be accompanied by an adult)

Fitness Level Required:

Moderate to good fitness is required. Participants should be comfortable walking for at least 2 hours and handling steep or uneven terrain.

Experience Needed:

No technical hiking experience required, but basic physical fitness is essential.
